1st paid job for ages
After going to nett 18 months ago have been doing plenty of work for friends, family just for experience not really charging anyone. Only 1 or 2 small jobs a month when I can around my day job. Did a proper paid job this weekend and took on all other bits just so I got the job. Originally was just to tile a shower but said I'd fit the enclosure for her too. Walls were plastered about 6 weeks ago and a shower tray was fitted at the same time. Customer bought a 760 enclosure to go on her 800 tray. Ended up building little stud walls out of offcuts in her garage to get it to fit. Then the tray wasn't level so sorted that before I did any tiling. Knew I was going to do a bit extra for her but with all the fiddling about didn't make much money at all, especially as I'd priced quite low anyway. Still at the end she's quite happy and so am I.( with the result )
What does anybody else do with these sort of things, find all the problems before you quote I imagine?
Put me off a bit now, especially as I'm on nightshift til 8 in the morning and been up all day.

Re: 1st paid job for ages
Hi twinkle,
Well done for sorting everything out. I dont tend to fit enclosures for the reasons you mention, plus they are all different and can be a right pain.
Dont let it put you off one but, imagine if you had just priced the tiling how much quicker you would have been! I guess on these small jobs they only want one person to do everything, if thats the casr and there are problems, give them a fixed price for tiling and an hourly or daily rate for everything else and explain issues as they crop up.
Noit long to go now, second wind eh!

Re: 1st paid job for ages
well done to you but do you really want to be working for nothing or very little all the time? You should get all these snags done before you give them an estimate or give them an estimate and tell them that is exactly what it is and if anything untowards crops up then you will need to charge accordingly.
Try and get intow with a plumber who can do your plumbing work and you can do his tiling work.
