Where the tiles stop and the wall carries on?
What is the best thing to do where tiles end and the wall continues?
I have three areas in my bathroom that need some form of finishing touch to tidy up.
(a) The edges the tiles of a basin tiled splashback. The edges of these tiles are not glazed.
(b) The edges of the tiles in my alcove shower area. Again, the edges of thes tiles are not glazed.
(c) The edges of porcelain tiles that have been used as a tile skirting around the perimeter of the room. These edges are the same as the tile face.
I am wonding if I can just put white silicone around these edges but I am not sure the best way to apply this to get a really good finish? Do I paint first or after silicone (assuming silicone is the way to go).
Thanks in advance
Steve

Plastic or metal tile edging trim.

Re: Where the tiles stop and the wall carries on?
As Above or you could use decorators caulk to seal against the tile and surfaces to be painted thet way the paint will take to the caulk
Also decorators caulk(painters mate) isnt so messy to use and if you mess it up it is easy to remove with a wet sponge

Re: Where the tiles stop and the wall carries on?
Thanks Peckers and Sir Ramic. I am not sure which way to go yet (edging or caulk).
If I decide to use edging, where can I get this from (without getting ripped off)? How does this get fixed in (what adhesive do I use ?

Re: Where the tiles stop and the wall carries on?
It fits behind the tile but i am assuming now that the tiles are fixed ?
So either you go the caulk route or you use another trim which could be fixed with silicone but it all seems an after thought to me.

Re: Where the tiles stop and the wall carries on?
As above or you could get the plastic tile trims and cut the back piece off(That normally goes behind the tiles) and then you can silicon them on against the tile!
But this should have really been done first.
The best way to cut the back bit off is to run it along your wet saw!

Re: Where the tiles stop and the wall carries on?
Alwaysan edge trim for me but if you have the areas tiled by now caulk around the edge is one way but how about making a feature with maybe an extra mosaic border which would then allow you to place the trim under as it should be.

Plastic trim is horrible, and i refuse to use the stuff...I use Aqua Mix Grout Colorant and paint it onto the edge of the tile. www.tradetiler.co.uk sells it and there are 24 colours to choose.

How about just using grout? I've done this succesfully a few times. With some tiles, it looks a lou better than a trim.
Mix up some very wet grout first and lightly paint it on, as it starts to dry, apply a fairly thick grout mix and chamfer it with a float. Very lightly dress it with a hard sponge as it starts to dry out
