not in my opinion, substrate probably won't bear the extra weight(having re read thread, I now see its the floor, but would still start from fresh)

only if the tiles are totally sound(even then i would not be comfortable with it(refused 2 jobs on this subject and never attempted it)),is the height issue not a problem?

not a problem as long as there are no weight issues!

i would still rip back to substrate though!

Check to see if there are weight issues and if the orig tiles are well bonded.
Use the proper adhesive (ardex x56 in oz ) and deglaze the tiles with a diamond cup on a grinder.

U will be supprized on how well it sticks down.

    Regards
    Trev

agree with david with the height, are you cutting round toilet
and sink or hoping the pipe work will give 13-16 mm or getting
a plumber? at the last minuite when pipe work wont reach that
will cost more than the jobs worth to you
