Thanks for the offer Alan, but gotta be sorted next week, had a quote from a company based in Hailsham, they charge 120 + vat for half day 250 + vat for a full day, reckon its only a half day to remove new silicone from tiles and enclosure and reapply, its a new 800x800 shower enclosure, 4 x vertical joints and 3 horizontal joints, mapei 132 beige grout and 132 beige silicone, 50mmx50mm porcelain mosaics
I have tanked the enclosure and tiled it, but customer was not happy with my siicone job, I took it off once and reapplied but they still think the joints are too big,I said I would get a specialist silicone man to remove and reapply and if it was better than mine then i would cover the cost.

    Cheers anyway

if your in a hurry why not buy some silicone eater and silicone and do it yourself!
you would still be a lot cheaper if you used http://www.cornertape.co.uk/ ,if your siliconing isn't up to much!

Gazebo, not a good story to read. I'm sure that the silicone you applied twice is/was a really good job. I've seen cornertape on the counter at Topps. Lovely straight lines, but still quite thick.........maybe it comes in thinner varities too, but I don't know. In theory (I'm sure you know this already), but a silicone line should be the same thickness as the grout line. I hope you sort this one out to the customers satisfaction. Benidorm is about to start on the TV. So goto go!!

CornerTape do a 4mm kit. Surely that can't be too big?

I met Andy @ CornerTape and he demonstrated it for me and my manager. Wow, it really is good stuff. I made a video of the demo. Sadly, I didn't record it all. But you can still how good it is! I mean, look at how the silicone was applied compared to the finished job!!

TBH I've seen some of Gazbo's work and it's far from shabby. I'm sure his silicone is on par with most of us on here. As stated he has done the silicone twice (How many of us would have made sure the second job was the best of our ability) I have a feeling that Gazebo is being diplomatic with his customer by offering a third party to come in and do the job and as also stated he would pay the cost if it was better than his. <-- That is the most important line of this thread and I'm sure gazebo didn't say that in arrogant way. If the customer had turned part of your work down twice what would you do? Get upset or offer a solution? I think Gazebo is going about this the right way re his customer.

Thanks Rob, I am sure being far from shabby is a compliment, lol.

If I had large format flat tiles i can silicone like the best of them.(nice pics dagger)
The point being that they are 2 inch porcelain mosaics with a slightly textured surface, the grout joints are 4/5mm (that is how they are spaced on the netting).being the tiles they were and the grout joints being so large the grout is not flush with the tile surface.

So when you apply your adhesive it is not straight forward. hence why I am seeing if there is anyone out there who specialises in this.
Anyone got any photos of a rough surface mosaic siliconed .???

I am sure corner tape works on your normal tiles, but would it work in this situation, how does it fair on textured tiles.??

And Yes Rob I am being diplomatic with my customer as most would have told them the 1st silicone attempt was satifactory.

If you know of the silicone man in question let me know.

Or if you half a day or so to have a go let me know.

The enclosure was lined with aquapanel and jointed, then homelux matting over the aquapanel, as it was so well tanked the customer even asked me if they had to have the last silicone there. I explained that even tanked down to the tiling upstands on the tray that the final silicone joint still has a job to do. The door is a nice Matki classica door which needs no frame between the bottom of the door and the tray, but it has 2 wall jambs.

So only 2 vertical joints in the shower, 2 outside the shower, and 3 horizontal on shower tray.

    Helpppppp....

    Cheers for your support Rob.

    Gary

Good point , but as you as not supposed to fill your vertical movement joints with grout, it would make the joints look dark. If i had filled the vertical joints with a small amount of mapei 132 beige then yes a clear silicone might work.

But as everyone on here recommends that grout should be kept clear from the silicone joints what am I to do, in the real world i think most guys would grout and cover with clear silicone, but i am trying to practice what I am being told on this site by experienced tradesmen.

thanks for the idea though. enjoy your weekend.

    p.s. are you really busy.?

I am turning work away and could prob pass some your way.

if you are skilled with silicone generally,

you can use cornertape and flatten the silicone with your finger, remove the tape, spray your hand with soapy water (not the bead) and smooth off!

alternativly, use one of these kits:

you see the black bits top right, they clip into the orange silicone shapers,
so the black bit runs along the tiles, stopping the judder you talked about!

    regards

Dagger...p.s its called a fugi kit.

Who here has used corner tape? is the tape low tack?

I'm doing a decorationg job at the moment and I have to wallpaper above the granite upstand (see pic) the upstand is currently siliconed above, I need to remove this to get a nice clean cut on the wallpaper then re-silicone but unlike tiles one slip with the silicone and it won't come off the paper. It has only just occured to me the corner tape would be perfect in this situation but only if the tape is fairly low tack as it will damage the paper when removing if not.

Hey Dagger, fancy doing some paper hanging in a couple of weeks? this is that job I mentioned with all the grass cloth
