a cautionary note for everyone today!
just been in casualty for the morning/afternoon after prepping a bathroom for monday (removing old tiles & making good) as always wearing gloves but stupidly took one off to get ringing mobile outta my pocket...leant on the window reveal..and hey presto!..sharp face of exposed tile edge cut thru my thumb to the bone and nicking the tendon, leaving a handsome flap of skin...yeeuchhh!
12 stitches later I'm now the proud owner of a very sore hand!!
I've been tiling for 16 odd years and it's only the second bad cut I've had..but the moral of the story is "KEEP YOUR BLOODY GLOVES ON IDIOT!!"
what a wally....I guess that's why health and safety is so important!!
I saw a really really sad looking guy in a tow truck this morning..I thought 'He's heading for a breakdown'

I had one similar a few years back, I was fitting a kitchen and I needed to trim the plastic channel that holds the ply together at the back of the cupboard, held the trim and pulled the stanley towards me, knew it was wrong but carried on because it wont happen to me, slipped with the knife and the blade went through my old thumb, from the tip down to the joint.........................................

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH HHHHHH!!!!!!!

it spouted but it did not hurt for a few minutes, wrapped it in a bandage and gaffer tape and carried on, (it was a saturday, it was 5pm and it was 2 days before chrimbo)
a fortnight later I was taken, forcibly, to the A&E by the missus, and they all had a good laugh. Because I had left it so long there was nothing they could do except clean it, the muscle had fell out so stitches were not needed. I can still feel it now if I press my thumb on any surface and it has an indent in it. So do as Jamie says and wear the old gloves.

A good friend of mine while on work experience at an engineering company was helping to lift a large metal dish type thing into a slot. He didn't whip his hand away quick enough and it took the end of his finger clean off at the first joint!
He wasn't impressed with the box of cadburys fingers as a get well soon present either, ungrateful git!

Here's some pics of Fekin when he slipped with a knife at work...

You will need access to the arms for these gruesome pics.
