The rounded bit confuses me

Re: nipping tiles
i think they mean the square block side where the nippers join each other rather than the open end away from where they join

Re: nipping tiles
Sorry. Not sure my eyes or my mind but I read that as Nippling Tiles .... thought oooheeer!!
On the other hand I have a really old pair of tile nipping pliers that I got from my grandad. A bit like mini bolt cutters. He used to use them for trimming Horses hooves - I use them for nipping tiles and they work a treat.

Re: nipping tiles
sounds like they need sharpening but watch your technique too; it's more of a downward pulling motion rather than trying to "bite" the through the tile by squeezing the pliers...

Re: nipping tiles
Hi,
It may help if you have a real good grip/hold on the tile and use the nippers once "nipped on" almost as a lever downwards...my beer gut works well to hold the tile in place for me
just wedge it in there ! or you could rest the tile on something solid. An empty 25ltr bucket will allow you to rest it on the edge or if you can sit at it rest it on your knee, support it with your body weight with bit to be nipped in or over the bucket space then the bits go in as you nip em.....Also try and make sure you have optimum nip ability by gripping the nippers at the ends of the handles...the nearer the hold to the blades....the harder it is to nip you will recognise this as you will feel the handles try and open as you pressure downwards because your grip will be weak when you hold incorrectly.
Hope this helps
