have been reading many threads and have noticed on quote querys that ye always include how many sockets and windows in job does this reflect quote, here in dublin it doesnt , and how much roughhly do ye get per sq yd................

windows or sockets dont affect my qoute's either...just as you say some do..dont know why.. if we all had straight walls to go at then whats the challenge......dave..

Sockets don't bother me there easy,doesn't effect my quote at all.Were metric over here I charge between £25 to £35 for ordinary ceramics per sqm.

I dont understand that myself, people pay us to beable to deal with windows, sockets etc. otherwise what are we doing. I find it a bit odd people will charge once for the tiling then again,........... for 'the tiling', (I do sometimes put my prep in at a daily rate rather than guesstimate on a fixed price). oh well, if you can why not. I like to beable to explain where the charge is if need be. I dont think people around here would be happy if they knew they were paying £25-35 p/mtr and then awkward cuts on top.

I think there's a couple of ways to look at it and it's just really what you feel your customers want to hear. £5 per meter but lots of add-ons or £20 per meter without or a total job price.... it should all total your living costs and a bit more really. I doubt you'll ever see a millionaire tiler that's made his cash from tiling alone and traditionally you'd never see a broke tiler either.

not a bad daily rate! to be honest mate, with competition being so high at the moment, if I banged all those extras on a quote, I'd be constantly out of work.

Playing devil's advocate (cost I don't think there is a right and wrong here), If Mr A had employed you to do his tiling, 4 square metres of splashback with a window and 10 socket points (all needing longer screws in) and you charged him £x, would Mrs B expect it doing cheaper if her 4 square metres didn't include a window and had only 3 sockets?
