asbestos reminder
hi all
as title says..we had our all trades talk today with our health and saftey officer and a gentleman from the HSE.
4hrs of it lol
but anyway just thought i would tell you some of it concerning the tile fixing side
had the picture and slide show and speaking to the HSE guy they have had a higher rise of asbestos related incidents over the last 12months..especally in the domestic market because of the downturn in site work.
he showed us 2 cases related to tiling both regarding artex.
1. tiler attempting to remove high spots of the artex with heavy hammer and bolster.
2.trying to remove artex with steamer.
in both cases the artex proved positive for asbestos.
during Q&A with HSE
they are trying to bring fines and charges againsts the people and companies involved.
should should have seen the pics/and slide show of plumbers an sparks..bloody frighting what they come up against..so if unsure get it checked.
so has they used to say in hill street blues be carefull out there..
not very good on computer but there must be a webpage were you go and look/download materials regarding.
sorry if this subject has been put out before.

Re: asbestos reminder
As it happens today i returned to a site where asbestos was found above the old suspended ceiling that was being removed, this was over a month ago. I was in the middle of tiling 2 rooms but had to vacate the site immediately. Only today was i let back in to grout....i think the adhesive had plenty of time to dry

Re: asbestos reminder
I know we can all get a bit bored with the constant toolbox talks from the Health and safety..but every now and then it's good to have a reminder!
I dread to think over the years how many people I've seen ploughing into walls/ceiling etc. with no protection!!
thanks for the info/reminder!
I saw a really really sad looking guy in a tow truck this morning..I thought 'He's heading for a breakdown'
