Hardibacker - no fixings, adhesive only?
Went into a well known tile shop yesterday to buy hardibaackers 6mm for my job monday...I will be overlaying t&g chipboard with 6mm hardibacker, the member of staff told me that when overlaying t&g chipboard there is no need to use screws at 200 centres just a 2 part flexi adhesive?? I can't find any info on the hardibacker site to support his claims, but seems odd to me as boards may have voids underneath which over time could delaminate if not mechanically fixed also?

Re: Hardibacker - no fixings, adhesive only?
I spoke to Knauf about this the other week (About Aquapanel obviously
). The strange thing was they couldn't really give me an answer as to why you need to screw and use adhesive, but they said you MUST.

Re: Hardibacker - no fixings, adhesive only?
The screws fasten the board down and the adhesive fills voids...So you 100% need to screw it down...on timber floors.

Re: Hardibacker - no fixings, adhesive only?
chipboard is secured with screws...small area...using 6mm not to add strength but for a better surface to tile to and protect chipboard from contact with water.

Re: Hardibacker - no fixings, adhesive only?
Thing is on a perfectly level floor with perfectly flat boards it would probably be ok to fix with adhesive only...but how often do we find that?!
