    Default Wieght Limits

I'v noticed quite a few post latley that mention wieght limits, and suitable substraights. Also sometimes when you mention these to a customer, they look at you like you are talking rubbish, and are trying to rip them off. Would it not there for be a good idea for tile shops to add this information to the price boards in shop. So the customers, and any unsure tile fixers can see what is needed prior to doing the job.

it would be a great idea, the only problem is tiles shops play ignorant on this so it does not hinder sales, they also do it when selling tubbed adhesive for large format tiles

How about Dan/Dave putting a permanent thread on the Guest/Forum pages explaining all about the weight issues, so that we can refer any doubting clients to the website where they can look for themselves...

If it was in the shop, for the customers to see at time of purchase, then it could also mean another sale for the shop. Also stop some bad tilers, sticking the likes of big tiles like 600x400 travertine to unsuitable walls ie bonded plaster.

Staff training is the key here....They should be asking the customer what substrates they are fixing thier heavy tiles too....

I am Totally for staff training...teach them and they teach the public...coz the public don't believe tilers...

    Hi all,
unfortunately for every one "of us" who wont entertain situations that have weight issues...there are the many that follow our visit / quote and either dont mention it and will bodge it and scarper ! or make out "we" are upping the price by unecessary means.
Sadly and understandably joe public wont know about these things unless they have checked out places like this forum or done other enquiries within the trades etc.

I recognise the look on the customers faces when you bring such things to their attention.....its the same one that most give you when you mention tanking....cuz "non of the other tilers mentioned that"

So as Dave says staff training is the key.....there are now in certain tile retailers on their displays signs saying these tiles need to be sealed ..there never used to be......now they get to sell extra sealer the tiles if sealed / applied correctly look and last better the shops reputation improves
Unfortunatley the B&Q guy I overheard saying "just get a cloth and wipe the edges of the tiles luv as thats where the grout goes ! " The infamous 600 x 600 cream porc...nuff said.
