Post Advice on setting out loft conversion

    Hi All

I am in a bit of a muddle at the moment. Just trying to set out my wall tiles (600x400 travertine) in a loft conversion. I set out a level line all the way along the wall with nice half tile cuts into the floor. The problem is that the swage line along the roof where the ceiling meets the wall is different lengths to the nice level line i had previously marked out. Some distances are 820 (tile x 2 plus grout) and some are 830.

Do i go by the line along the ceiling/wall where it meets the hardiback board or do i go by the level line i have and live with the 10mm gap between the edge of the tile and the ceiling swage line?

The house was built in 1890 so i know you have to live with some of the quirks but just need some advice to make this a nice neat job!

    Any help appreciated!!

    Cheers
    Chris

You have to set the job out to a level line, but you also have to try and get good cuts top and bottom and side to side.
Adjust your line so that you have a decent cut ( this will change the nice big half tile cut at floor) both top and bottom . You will then be able to tile into the swage line leaving just a small 1-2mm expansion gap which you can then fill with silicone.

I agree... Just change your bottom line to give to a better finish at the top. It sounds like you are only going to need to move it about 10mm. Then cut into the topto give expansion gap

Brilliant guys that sounds like it will do the trick...will adjust the level line accordingly. Is the sealant available in the same colour as the grout? I have limestone coloured grout for the trav tiles?

Yes you can get silicone to colour match. I prefer Mapei, but ask your tile shop for a matching one
