Should i feel guilty??
Just completed a small tiling job in bathroom. Basically the bathroom company that did it just tiled the shower, bath and sink seperately, no datum line at all
. The customer wanted more tiles put up to link everything together and couldn'nt believe it when i explained setting out and how many tiles would have to come off!
Basically i've tidied it up, days work at a days rate, now she wants another bit done round the toilet, maybe half a days work on a Saturday. I've charged a little over half a days rate but feel guilty as if she'd asked for all of it done together it would have been max a day work. I don't need any grout or addy so easy job but i am making 2 trips so feel sort of right but just a bit guilty!

Re: Should i feel guilty??
I wouldnt feel guilty, you have to cover your travelling expenses again, its a shame she diddnt have it done at the same time when you was there before.
As long as your time to do the job is covered and your travelling expenses, as if she got another tiler to come back and do that little extra he/she would probably charge the same..
And you could be down the pub on a sat..

Re: Should i feel guilty??
Happens to our customers all the time.
They turn up and do a free quote for a tiling job then get roped into doing more things that were not agreed.
Extras Like:
1) Hanging mirrors
2) Hanging furniture like loo roll holders
3) Connecting plumbing and electrics for showers and toilers.
4) Testing appliences and white goods work.
5) Painting skirtings, ceilings doors.
7) Cleaning windows.
8) Taking extra waste down the dump, like cardboard packing, old carpet.
9) Doing extra little jobs for the neighbours - inlaws etc.
We've seen / heard them all. The only way to tackle a job is to decide during the free quotation stage with the client if you are on a job rate (in which case set out what is included and whats not) or a day / travel rate and then charge for your time and petrol.
Andy Alpin our tiler offers both to his customers but he does it at the free quotation visit. He basically charges about £5000 plus parts to do a full bathroom which includes everything from gutting the room to handing it over all snagged and ready for use.
He also charges per hour to be on jobs.
But he makes it clear to the client during the free quotation stage as to whats included in both schemes. (or most important whats not)
Finally dont forget about "good will" and reputation. If you go beyond the remit and its not cost you anything and helps build your reputation then its a case of happy customers.
