    Default Weyroc?????????

    Hi

I gave an estimate on a kitchen floor (6m2 - quite small) based on the fact that it was already tiled (he was going to remove the tiles) and me thinking the substrate must be pretty good because the tiling looked ok.

Anyway upon him removing the tiles he has now claimed he thinks it is a Weyroc floor.

Firstly What is weyroc ?? is it just chipboard?

Secondly the kitchen fitter who is doing his kitchen told him, ' aah you'll be ok, just get the tiler to bang some self leveller down and the jobs a good un' !!!

So now thats what the customer assumes I have to do (thanks mr Kitchen fitter - MFI N*B head)

Do I treat weyroc as chipboard? ply, prime, fastflex etc

    or is there other requirements?

Am a bit confused on this one.

    thanks in advance

    Hello M8,
To answer your question, Weyroc is a brand name for a particular chipboard...!

Make sure none of the boards are loose, overlay with ply 18mm british standards(should be able to get away with 12mm if there just ceramicacs)screw down every 300m(screwfix turbogold)then prime.
    Happy days!

Thanks for the replies lads, as I thought (feared) really!

so in theory I am going to raise the floor 12 - 18mm. Can I definately get the door strips to accomodate this step.? The other room is carpeted (hallway). Also I will need to adjust the door (no probs with this).

    thanks

alright beatt mate.... clean all the crap off the floor and screw down 6mm backer boards will give strong floor to tile onto and less height increase....

Hi Beats, google for "no more ply" it's a 5mil material, if height is a factor this stuff will do the job.

    Mark.

no more ply is a" backer board " of 6mm ...same as i mentioned....lol lol

back again, sorry for dragging this through the mud, but

once I have the backer board down, and primed. Would Bals single part flex be ok to use or should I stick to fastflex?

also should I add poly to the grout as well.

dont want single part flex as this is slow setting .. just use rapid set flexible.... use bal super flex grout as its ideal for newcomers to tiling as its premixed formula (hydrated )... other alternative is bal wide joint with bal GT1 additive......dave...

    Thanks Tiler68

I was thinking is there a screed I could use, and what would be wrong with a self levelling compound. Wouldnt this hold the (already well secured) chipboard in place???

    any thoughts?

If i laid a screed (latex or self leveller) then a flexy adhesive (fastflex) this wouldnt add much height and would be a piece of p1ss. However I dont want to do a bad job and get a call back a month later to face a deluge of cracked tiles.

It is a levelling compound try ball powder with a 128 liquid i think. All good flooring wholesales will have it .

If you just intend to tile onto the chipboard and it is free of old adhesive then bal fastflex will suffice...but if you cant get it all off then arditex latex leveller is good stuff to use and a good price aswell...i get mine from c.t.d................
