getting rid of old tiles

Hi guys
This may be a stupid question but it's been troubling me.
I have just started my business and i've got my first couple of jobs lined up and both jobs start with removing old tiles.
What do you do with the rubble how do you get rid of it?
I want to give the most professional service i can provide what do you suggest.

bag it up (in proper rubble sacks) and ask the customer to dispose of it at the tip, alternativly, it will cost you to dump the waste at the tip.
you will need to check your area but it will proberbly be by the TON,
and plasterboard has new regs.
check it out at your local dump.

best bet its to tell the customer that it will save them money to dump thier own waste!

I advice the client that I do not have a waste handlers licence, so it is their responsibility to dispose of the waste.

Unless you have a licence, I would suggest that you either hire a skip or get a Hippo Bag at the customers expense.

Make sure that you let the customer know before you start the job that you don't have a waste licence, and that the onus will be on them to dispose of waste

I get charged 120 notes at my local tip, London, so I put on my quote that fact, if they want it removed they pay, if not, I bag it up ( don't charge for the rubble sacks) and leave it nicely packed in their garage, driveway etc.

Grumpy, what was the break-down in the price. I see you buy them, them call and make a final payment? Is it right there are different sizes and the pass way has to be clear for pick-up, ie no crane over garden walls?

I got a midi bag which is a cubic metre and will hold about a ton. Cost a tenner.....pick up is (in my area, it varies!) is £49.95. You are supposed to put the bag in a position where it can be easily hoisted, I think they meen not high walls...say 2m or something. I placed my bag next to a garden wall but it was no higher than the top of the bag.....the lamp post may cause a problem though!!!!!

Wickes do them as well, can more convenient than a skip for small jobs

i just use a local skip hire company one and a half ton miniskip £45.00 dropped off and collected.

Richie - as the lads have mentioned - you need a licence to take ANY rubbish off a job. Do no favours as it wll cost you very dearly.
So its -Bag it and leave for customer.
-Hippo bag it and have it collected.
-Get a skip.

£200 dont let them know that here or they will put prices up....the price i quoted is for me only though....one of the first tiling jobs i did was for a local man who owns a skip hire company and also luckily was my father in laws best friend from school who he hadnt seen in ages. although i didnt know this at the time just mentioned the name of the customer and my father in law popped round the next day....and four hours later got a call to pick them up from the pub seems they had done a fair bit of catching up.

At work today, the local dustmen asked the builder if he wanted the building rubbish taken away for 50 quid! what a result, now their coming to my garage to take my old tiling stuff away...........

thanks for the info guys the jobs i have coming up aren't huge jobs so rubble bags are the way for these ones i think.
Hippo bags sound good for larger jobs.
