Tile onto existing upstairs bathroom tiles?
Evening all,
First post so please be gentle. Customer has asked if it is possible to tile an upstairs bathroom floor. Currently has ceramic tiles on the floor which seem to be in good nick and well fixed. Is it ok to tile straight on top of these or best to rip out, add sub floor and tile?
Help and advice much appreciated!

Re: Tile onto existing upstairs bathroom tiles?
Personally i would rip out and start a new...especially on a timber floor.

Re: Tile onto existing upstairs bathroom tiles?
Defo rip out and start again any probs that occur under existing become your problem once you have overtiled it

Re: Tile onto existing upstairs bathroom tiles?
Get them up, as the others have said will cause you a whole lot more trouble if anything goes wrong. Then check out the condition of the floor before laying new.

Re: Tile onto existing upstairs bathroom tiles?
I'd go for the rip up as well.
BUT on my own downstairs bathroom the old tiles were on a solid concrete slab. At the time it was more grief to rip them up than to tile on top.
So we laid porcelain tiles on a bed of adhesive directly over the old tiles.

In hindsight I wish we had ripped them up because it caused a "step" but back then it looked a tempting flat surface to tile over...
If you are working with wood underneath the for the extra half day its going to add to take out the tiles and take to skip then I think I would just do it!
I'm a big believer in going back to the bare surface areas...
