    Default Tile positioning

    Hi All,

I have just finished tanking my bathroom and am ready to start the tiling.

(Thanks to everyone who has given me advice to this point - it has been invaluable).

I am tiling the floor first with 333mm x 333mm tiles. I have located the centre of the room which lies approximately 550mm away from the side of tray former.

I will be using a different colour mosaic tile to cover the tray former area.

What is best practice in tiling up to the tray former, do I use a full tile next to the tray and work outwards from this point or should I work from the centre of the room and cut the tiles up to the tray?

As always your advice is much appreciated.

    Regards

    Chris

Cgadmin - When setting up the floor tiling are you going to bond the joints with the wall tiling as this will need to be taken into consideration as the main issue reference cuts to corners.
You don't have to be governed on the tray size to where the mosaic starts but I find it aesthetically pleasing to the eye if you set the mosaic to full tile pieces - allowing for the thickness of the wall tiling. I would also try to start a full tile to the edges of the mosaic on the main floor area - no matter how good your cut edge is to the mosaic it can't beat the edge of full tiles.

    Thanks for the reply John,

When you say 'bond the joints to the wall' what do you mean?

I was looking to lay the floor tiles down first, up to the wall and then apply the wall tiles on top. Is this not best practice?

thanks for the advice on the tiling up to the tray former, I will try to meet the mosaic tiles with full tiles!

    Regards

    Chris

Chris - What size are the wall tiles (floor tiles 333x333mm)
To bond wall to floor in joint - wall tiles should be around 300/333mm.
Bonding just means keeping the line of grouting from the wall tiling running through the line of grouting in the floor tiling.
Its fine to do the floor first.

    Have fun !

    Hi John,

The wall tiles are 305 mm x 305 mm. I guess I can only maintain the line of grouting if the wall and floor tiles are the same size?

    Cheers

    Chris
