pricing
Hello all,
I'm off to price up my first job this afternoon. The guy called me yesterday and asked me how much it would cost to tile his toilet, walls and floor ( I'm guessing he means downstairs bog or maybe even bathroom) Just wondered how you go about giving a price? do I measure it all up then come away and work it all out and hand deliver a quote (he lives nearby) or could I just take a look, see how long I reckon it'll take and give him a price there and then, or at least an estimate. I'm sure his main priority is to get it done as cheap as possible.
Cheers all
Brendan.

Cheers Jay
Just scratching my head now trying to figure out what I'd like to earn from it. Not be to pricey to scare haim off or to low so I'm doing it for next to nothing. I guess you can take a hit on a few jobs when first staring out and I'd likr to think it shouldn't take more than a few days max.

Re: pricing
I never "quote" always estimate, and I always go away and then present a good quality written estimate, along with terms and conditions of sale.

Re: pricing
Hi i would say your best option would be to firstly ask the client what he would like look at the tiles to see whether it affects cost of adhesive and extra tools you don't have, then measure up the area take a pad and pen so you can make notes on surfaces and special requirements, also consider amounts of cuts.ie small floor big tiles lots of time taking cuts then i would explain that i will give them a call later to let them know the price and pop the estimate through the door. On your first job it is always a learning curve and you are bound to get something wrong or foget something in the pricing.
Good luck mate

Re: pricing
Talk a lot about options, and ask the customer a lot about what they want. Note that when you get a few more posts behind you, Dave or I can add you to the tilersforums arms where you can see other peoples pricing issues, and read quite a bit of advice about how to go about pricing.
Good luck.
