What gloves to use for tiling?
Ahoj everyone.
I would like to ask you all What kind of gloves do you use for tilling and for grouting?
I found it very uncofortable to work without gloves as my hands get too dirty or too wet or too dry or they get cut and so on.
It feels best to work without gloves but my hands just suffer.
I use (surgical) latex gloves but they break easily and I have to change them a few times a day.
The heavier kitchen/cleaning gloves I find ok for grouting(not for tilling) but it is all short life.
I hate Adhesive and grout on the skin - dry skin too much.
Please let me know how you deal with these problem and perhabs you can sugest any brand or product how to protect good pair of money making hands.
(At the end of the day, of corse ,do not forget to use E45 cream
to keep them hands smooth so Mrs do not complain)
Also what is the best knee pads? What brand last long and stay good long? I am trying diferent diferent kinds, but wonder if its worth to buy once with plastic cap as they come expensive(I mean the padding gets worn out/squashed as well as cheaper without plastic cap).
Please post your experiences.
THNX

Re: What gloves to use for tiling?
I use nailers anti-slip knee pads avail from Screwfix, although they do other pads...I think tradetiler also recommends knee pads but I've never tried them..
tend not to bother with gloves unless working with natural stone or coloured (particularly black) grout...

Honza.
When I break the ice off the water in winter and take out the tiles I've had steeping overnight - I use fully waterproofed cow skin!
When I mix the sand and cement screed and dry float the surface before buttering neat cement onto the backs of the tiles - I use double quilted hessian guantlets!
When I use the finest portland cement slurry grout and brush off with the freshest sawdust - I use the skin I was born with!
And 35 years later its car mechanics latex for all!
John.

Wow - what a guy, makes perfect sense to me, Russell.
The gloves in a bottle will stop the skin absorping all the glove's chemicals, too...and keep the hands soft :-), yes, I will do that when I need to wear gloves and just use the gloves in a bottle (ordered some last night) when possible. Great stuff.

Re: What gloves to use for tiling?
I use clean grip vinyl gloves from screwfix but barrier cream before and atrixo after I've cleaned up for the day. I also use gel knee pads not capped. They are pretty good and quite cheap off the bay.

Ahoi from Germany Honza1. We had your question already but it is some time ago.
Some years ago the health insurance companies made some researches how to prevent cement dermatitis. As a conclusion it is recommanded for tilers and any men/women working with cement/concrete/masonry constructions to wear gloves which are nitril covered.
Always the best health wishes, Martin

Just to quickly confirm - the 'gloves in a bottle' lotion is fantastic! Got some last week and use it all the time now! Wasn't sure how effective it could be, so when I did my liquid henna thing with my hair again, which stains fingers really quickly, I tried a bit just to see, and hey presto, the henna washed off! Very impressive. So yes, marigolds and the lotion for tough stuff - you can't get any better.

Re: What gloves to use for tiling?
De Walt work gloves not to thick for tiling thumb and pointing finger are fingerless for ease of using spacers and good old black rubber maridold type gloves for grouting.but i only use these on sitework(because you have to health and safty) otherwise i dont wear them after 25 years hands are like rawhide just wash them with brick acid.........Only joking dont try this at home...lol

Re: What gloves to use for tiling?
Tesco do a thick black rubber glove thats pretty cheap. Lasts me months, and I only use them for grouting really. I have no problems with adhesive on my hands.
Its my trowel calluses that give me the most grief.
