    Default Tile density

    Hi All,

Does anyone know where I can find info on tile density scale 1 - 5

Anyone have a list of all stone and tiles ?

Does the Tile scale relate in any way to the stone density scale which is in grams per cm cubed / gcm3

I am trying to get together a list of all stone & tiles, both for inside and out that I am likely to work with,

It'll be hard to do that as each manufacturer could have their own rating.

What you could do with finding out is what density the tile actually is, and then make your own sort of scale perhaps taking into account the anti-slipness of floor tilers, or the cleanability of wall tiles. Etc?

Though wherever you see ratings, they're probably their own. A manufacturer will sell to a distributor or importer based on the actual figures when they were tested etc. It's then down to the distributor to pass that info onto the supplier, and upto the supplier to market his 'wise choice for his customers' in his own way, a way the customer will understand.

I think some associations (like the stone one) will give their opinions on what ratings should and will be, but again when you make a list I think you'll find the same stone rated differently on a 1 - 5 scale in various suppliers.

A high end store might rate a tile 3 or 4, but a cheap warehouse style store might label it 4 or 5.

Hope that helps. Might not be all right, it's just my view.
