hi could anyone tell me the best place to buy expasion joint strips? got a 130m2 floor to tile.

Good afternoon Speno.
Your location would help for anyone in your area to have input!
It would be CTD here in the north-east or near one of their branches throughout the country.
Schluter make a range of expansion joint strips.
Note: The expansion joint in the tile should follow the movement joint in the sub-floor.
Have fun

thanks john theres a cdt in manchester i can use. im from lancashire havent put my profile in yet. this is going to be my first large project only use to doing bathrooms/ kitchens/hallways etc. any advice/problems i need to look out for john? also what spacing should i give the joints? been told every 3mtrs then been told every 10mtrs

you may not have a structural joint in a floor that small but should be every 5.4 mts i tend to put them in every 6 mts i don't use the strips unless its a structural joint but it does depend what the floor is being used for :Pete

thanks pete its being used for a dog grooming salon so light traffic really. the thing thats worrying me is the fact its a new build which has only just been finished. how long should this really be left for settlement? the builder im doing the work for always wants a quick turn around obviously for profit.

Speno.
Expansion joints should be:
1) over existing and/or structural movement joints.
2) at perimeter walls, columns, steps etc.
3) in large floors where walls are more than 10 mts apart to divide the area into bays of 8-10mts.
So in accordance with BS 5385 - 10mts is the recommended spacing within the tiling unless a stuctural joint is visable. In heavy traffic areas a preformed strip gives more protection to the tile edge than a sealant joint.
Have fun.
John.

don't forget concrete wants 1" a month to dry and screed 14 days :Pete
thanks john there is no structural joints vissible i presume its just had reinforced mesh then a couple of foot of concrete poured in. quite reluctant to do job really its a new build with the builder wanting everything done as quick as poss regardless of setllement and doesnt really listen to advice. bit of a catch 22 situation get alot of work from him. but whos going to get the blame if it fails? and more to the point whos going to pay to have rectified? my name always pops in my head for some reason ha ha
i did tell him you have to wait for drying and settlement he doesnt listen pete. cheers.
what about using bal green screed adhesive,? I've never used it myself but there's a few tilers on here that have![]()
