Seat Inside Shower
Hi, thinking of adding a tiled step /seat to the inside of the shower enclousure (also would hide the soil pipe from the toilet if the position of the toilet changes)
Will 18mm WBP ply clad round a stud frame be ok and should the Frame be 4x2 or wound that be overkill, also do I need to treat the WBP ply with anything
cheers

Re: Seat Inside Shower
hi stronger the better i would line the ply with hardie backer(cementsheet)pref 6mm on top screwed down also tank the whole area with a flex membrane
also make sure all joints and junctions (internal external) are taped and plastered

Re: Seat Inside Shower
yes plastered or at least jointed as mentioned stronger is better wnat your exist walls made of and what tile you gunna use

Re: Seat Inside Shower
All the walls are dot and dabbed plasterboard , might have to build a little stud wall at one end depending on what enclosure we get, shouldnt be a problem as the tiles are only going to be 250 or 300 by 200
As I said the budget is tight - nothing is purchased yet just looking into equipment and material costs, this was something I had not budgeted for till I started reading up on it

Re: Seat Inside Shower
Plasterboard the main area, ply the step your thinking of making sure its solid, then tank the whole area with Dura-wp. This will seal the whole area and you can tile directly...............

Re: Seat Inside Shower
been looking at that - I notice your the main man reguarding this product
Will any flexi adhesive do to fix it in place, can you recomend one bearing in mind the budget is very tight.
I'll be fitting a shower tray so how, would I seal it to that and which size kit would I need.

Re: Seat Inside Shower
Hi janzbro and thanks for the comments about the 'job of the month photo'.
If its a normal domestic shower enclosure and the step/seat is not going to be too large you could as you've suggested build a timber framework of 2x2 and cover it with Wedi board or similar for under £20.
Rubber silicone seal/tape all the edges and corners and use a fast set flexible waterproof white adhesive (ie-webber) .
Not everything is as expensive as it looks!
John.

can only repeat above regarding strength of timber structure.

Re: Seat Inside Shower
I agree with TJ.
Wedi would be my choice
