Tiled Skirting questions ? Help please!

I have recently tiled the floor in my new en-suite bathroom. I would like to add a single row of cut tiles (same as used on the floor) as a sort of skirting board all the way around the room. This all seemed to be quite straight-forward until I started to dry lay some tiles around the room. Now as the skirting board tiles are cut from the same tiles I used on the floor (300mm x 300mm x 9mm thick) I thought I would line up the ones on the wall with the ones on the floor. This is fine until I come to an outside corner (The room is "T" shaped so I have two of these). I can't see how I can get a decent finish on these corners because if I fit the tiles on the wall to lin up with the ones on the floor then this will leave a big gap at the corner. I did consider just putting the skirting board tiles on the wall without lining them up with the ones on the floor so that I could then simply overlap the back of one tile over the bare edge on the other at my two external corners.

HELP PLEASE!

you need to "mitre" the tiles on the external corners....that way it will come into a neat point.........or use some tile trim.....nasty, nasty stuff on skirtings!

with all due respect both examples you show are internal corners, easiest thing in the world,he is asking about the reverse of your drawings i think!



if you imagine this as your external corner all you have to do is cut back the tiles on the line i have drawn.

bog standard mitiring.

That looks great and I could probably mitre my tiles but this would mean they would NOT line up with the floor tiles (The grout lines on the tiles on the floor would not follow on to the ones on the wall). I am starting to think that I should not bother to try to line up the wall and floor tiles and just try to get the mitres as you have suggested.

Cheers for the Mitre steer, I had not thought about trying to do this with the tile skirting. I have a wet cutter that does mitre cuts so this may be the way to go.

hi steverog off set ur skirting tiles so it is like brickbond effect this will look fine.cut ur skirting tiles down to 100mm xlength of tile if u get what i mean hope this helps

i now see what you mean, if you follow joins parrallel then you end up with a gap at the corners, you will have to offset and mitre for the best finish.
oh, silverogs images are still external if you look at them, its my bad eyes.

What about I make a small slither of tile and fit this at 45 degrees onto the corner. I then run the tiles at either side up to this with a grout gap. Not sure how this would end up looking in practice. See the sketch attached....

After much deliberating... I think the best bet is the offset tiles in the brick bond style with the bog standard mitres.

if its that small you wont do it, how big is the distance between the corner, half bond and mitre may look better?

You could finish the corners with a nice chrome trim and corner piece at the top to finish off.

Like this but with only one lenght of trim from floor to top of skirting with the square piece slotted into the top to finish off.

If you mitre your skirting tile it will not line up on both walls but it wont be by much try laying the skirtings out dry and adding 1 mill or 2 to each joint you will soon catch up and it may not notice same if you everlap especialy if that part wont be seen because of furniture etc failin that same as Metioned before do it half bond it looks O.K. All the old Spanish houses i tile the rooms are miles out of square so it is impossible to line up, dont know about the U.K. but over here it is cheaper to buy the matching skirting tiles than cut them from the field tile, time cutting and loads of waste and the purpouse skirtings look better.
