Do I need to use a decoupling membrane or not?
I have a solid concrete floor onto which I was planning on fitting the following for a wet room design (in this order)...
- Warmup insulation board (6mm)
- Homelux waterproof matting
- Warmup UFH (loose wire)
- Self levelling compound
- Travertine tiles
I know I need to use flexi adhesive for all of the above.
Homelux state that the floor matting's fleece layer acts as a decoupling layer.
I really need to know if I am fitting it all in the correct order, as I dont want cracked tiles!
Will I need to leave expansion gaps?
The ensuite I am tiling (floors and walls) is only 2.5m L x 1.5m W x 2.5m H
Thanks

Re: Do I need to use a decoupling membrane or not?
It may act as a decoupling layer but i personally would opt for something like Durabase or Ditra matting. These are designed as decoupling membranes and will do the job properly. I would def use one of these with Travertine and UFH.

You don't need an uncoupling membrane.
Yes the Homelux will act as one to a small degree, although it IS NOT designed to be one.
The critical factor here which could ruin your work IMO is the smoothing compound.
Make sure it's a flexible one.
Also, don't leave voids under the travertine - aim for 100% coverage and all will be well.
