Hi all , i have a fairly big outside step to tile is it best to apply adhesive to surface of step and also back butter tiles to create a solid bed ?the tiles are large format .

why not use a solid bed trowel? or a tipped trowel

Your fixing method is fine........maybe need a thick bed adhesive if packing above 6mm.....

Flexible adhesive will be your best option to cope with thermal changes..etc..

Just be careful of frost for few days after laying

thanks for all your advice guys i have a large u notch will prob use it and also back butter with a small trowel.
