Default White Gloss or Matt Tiles large format

    Hi,

I am looking to purchase large white either gloss or matt finish tiles for a kitchen floor. I need approx 22 m.sq. ideally in porcelain but ceramic will be fine.
Tiles also need to be rectified edges and totally flat to achieve a minimal grout joint. I am sure you will know the effect I am after.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Chris

Can anyone help? You'd think that they'd be easy to find but not on the high street.

Thanks I will try them, There are three big tile distributors on Geldard Road in Leeds just round the corner which I didn't know about. B&Q recommended them to me which is a surprise...lol. Hopefully if I ask they can order them in even if they don't stock them.

Thanks for your help so far, i'll be back if I have no further luck.

Not sure you will find rectified edges on normal ceramic floor tiles, you will probably need to be lokking at porcelain for that, and if you need them as "flat" as possible, don't go for too big a size, porcelain tiles can be "bowed" because of the firing process used with them if they are big tiles. Also, minimal grout joints can be asking for trouble, what is your floor made of?

I know the effect that your after exactly! Are you fixing them yourself or getting it laid by a time served tiling contractor - because that is what you'll need. Explain to him what materials you are hoping to get and the joint size/edge you require before he gives you a price. White tile, no joint, flat edges - you will need a perfectly flat floor, a very expensive quality tile and just wait until the sun shines!

    Totally agree!

I did a similar look for a customer back in October. That was a 330 x 330 from Porcelanosa. It looked the dogs danglies when finished, I'll try and find some pics....

    Hi Thanks for the info.

Tried Topps and the big distributors on Geldard Road only sell what they have on display. Ordered a sample from ebay of a white porcelain tile, it was cream.

Here is the decor we have maybe you have more of an idea what will look best:-

White Gloss Units & Doors with curved corners.
Wood work tops in a light oak colour.

We want a polished look to the floor. We have seen the white flat gloss tiles done in a hotel in London so I know it looks good. We saw some star galaxy white tiles that looked good but at £120 sq m. They were double our budget for the tiles. Know of a cheaper source?

As a last resort I get rid of the missus and compromise on the perfect look

    Cheers

    Chris

Porcelanosa make these type of tiles as Captain Slow mentioned below, I laid some about 2 years ago, in a bathroom and kitchen floor for the same customer, these were then grouted white. They did look the dogs when laid. If my memory serves me right, the tiles I laid were 450x450.

I had to return to the customer about 3 months later, to use a grout colourant on the kitchen floor, she couldn't keep the grout clean, even after i had use a grout sealer.

As I am a chippy by trade, I fit a lot of kitchens along with the tiling. Another option, is to use a brown tile on the floor to have the contrast between white units and worktops, this will set of your kitchen units.

    Ok Thanks.

I will have to try Porcelanosa's actual showroom as I don't see white tiles on their site. I agree Swanseajack about having a contrasting colour instead but the missus won't have it, might end up relaying the concrete floor with her under it if she's not careful...lol.

By the way the floor is mostly Ashfelt if thats how you spell it according to my Dad.
I am getting a pro tiler to do the work, just need the tiles.

    Thanks

Will the skirting need removing for movement?

As for asphalt, what do you mean? asphalt tiles, coating or an ash floor(usually found in very old properties) your tiler will advise on required subfloor preperation.

As for skirtings, there should be no need to change for expansion on a 22m2 floor. This is down to your personal choice, depends on what tiles you buy, you could have a tiled skirting or a new woooden one. Myself personally I prefer to have new skirtings.

ps where are you based, maybe one of the tilers on here can do the job for you. See the above Sub Section, for posting in "Im looking for a wall/floortiler"

My Dad says its asphalt but to me it looks like concrete, although he is a building site manager so I don't tend to argue with him about things like this....lol. Was built in 1954. I think i'll leave the rest to my tiler he did my bathroom was a very good job even my dad thinks so.

Just need to find suitable tiles, i'll just have to keep looking.

    Cheers

    Chris
