    Default Friends floor tiling

Went to my friends house the other night. I walked in and he has had his kitchen floor tiled. Dark tiles (a deep grey) he claims are ceramic. Large grout lines too large for my taste and with a white grout which to me just looks mad with the dark tiles. Anyway I asked him who did it. His cousin did it on the cheap for him. The floor wasn't laid great grout lines didnt line up accurately enough and the grout work was lazy, not cleaned up well enough. It was flat though and thought oh well if thats what hes happy with thats up to him. I wouldn't be happy putting my name to that standard of work however.

Anyhow sat in the garden having a jar later in the evening and he had propped the back door open with a tub. After closer inspection its B&Q wall tiling adhesive and grout. I said is that what he used to do the floor. Yes comes the response. I got all the mats and the guy in B&Q told me that was the stuff we needed. I've been on a 4 day course at NETT and know that that is a complete bodge job. His cousins an apprentice and at college doing a part time tiling college course. He surely should have really known better.

Its a catalogue of errors really. Just a shame really cos he paid his cousin and paid for tiles etc.

Not really sure what the point of the post is other to vent my anger a bit.

at the end of the day his cousin is accountable for this mis-hap,it will surely arise in problems in the not too distant future, then his cousin will probably get it for the complete balls-up that has happened!

a bit like wickes ad campaign of the guy tiling a floor with a 6mm square notch trowel(in theory it's possible with a round notched, not that it would be worth trying)

Smithey - Did you leave your card for when he has to have them taken up and re-done. The trouble is it will most likely put your mate off having it tiled again blaming the materials.

I told him that it wouldn't last long and I could sort it for him when he needs it. Guess it's a problem of the times though. People wanna pay cheap but they get a cheap job an it don't last so it's false economy really

Saw that campaign and was thinking the same after reading comments from this forum! There may be a reason why they USED to be professionals!
