    Smile advice required

hello tilers,my 1st,unpaid project, for a friend,it is a small indoor toilet to tile,no info on tiles yet,but i do know that the walls are brick, they look uneven and have been painted with a textured paint!.
should or could i just tile straight onto this surface,or do i strip it or plasterboard it first?.

would seriously think about sheetig the walls with plasterboard as this will give you a good surface to work with making things a lot less complicated!

As above, if the brick walls are that bad it could end up being a struggle to tile

Hi there. not massively experienced myself yet but did watch someone who "could tile onto anything" his words NOT mine, tile an uneven brick surface. we went back to strip them off plasterboard and re tile cos it looked BAD.

    Preparation is the word!
Unibond the walls -let them dry.
Dot and dab fix plasterboard to all tiled areas.
    Tape the joints.
Ready for the easy part - start fixing.

This way you can make the walls almost perfect so no excuses and the money you will save on tile fixing time and adhesive will pay for the extra plasterboard materials

How well is the textured paint fixed and could it be removed

Unibond will take only 20kg m2, with plasterboard and tiles will be pushing the weight to an extreme.

try to remove the paint or score heavilly and dot and dab a suitable tile backer board onto the brickwork, seal first with sbr ,its easer than trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
