    detecting a stud is easy enough by tapping the wall you will hear more of a thud than a tap when you are on top of the stud,and they are usually at 450mm centres! never came across a decent copper pipe detector as you will see in a thread of mine in feb when i went through the floor pipe(rule of thumb -screws=thickness of ply +thickness of floor)

    I've got the bosch one. Seems to be better than the DIY ones.

    DIYTOOLS.COM: Bosch DMF10ZOOM Wire Stud Detector

    It was being sold as a package by Travis Perkins stores along with their laser measurer for around £120 plus vat, but I think the price has come down a bit since then. IIRC I paid around £60 plus vat for the two. I had the option of putting the laser measurer on e bay, but I like my toys

    cheers lads. was more a pipe detector i was after to be honest, dunno why i said stud detector??
