    Default slate problems (again)

ok, i know this is a frequently asked question. ive tiled some slate that has been sealed twice. just grouted it today with BAL superflex grout and its as if the grit in the grout has scratched the surface of the sealer!
looks as if ive rubbed over the tile with a light sandpaper almost!

also ive still got a chalky residue left on the tiles, its not bad but just wondered if there were any tips and would resealing the tiles get rid of the abrasion marks? the tiles look fine when wet. its just when it dries out!

How long did you leave the sealer to dry before grouting..?

And what sealer did you use..?

    Hi.
What make of seal did you use as the 'stone seal' I prefer is clear and almost invisible when dry. Some impregnating sealers tend to leave a sheen on the tiles and if the grout has lightly scratched the surface it may have just been this left on the surface.I wouldn't put any more seal onto the tiles until your happy with the surface and certainly use a mild cement cleaner to remove the chalky residue first. I'am in Tynemouth tomorrow (on a slate floor) if I can be of assisstance.

the sealer was FILA slate impregnator sealer. it was left overnight to dry.
it's only a small floor and the customer seems ok with the result so far, but i know its not as good as past slate floors i've done! i usually stick with a charcole grout as the residue doesnt show as much as grey!

i certainly wont seal the slate again until i'm happy with the cleanliness of the tiles, but any tips on what to clean them with without making matters worse would be appreciated!

I don't know fila but they should do a remover to keep it all the same products. It won't do any harm and i'am sure it will take the surface marks off. I've used HG products before and the removers have stripped old slate surfaces ready for a new stone seal and later HG satin polish.

Grimex neat seems to have done the trick, back to a nice dark grey - now to persuade the builder to finish the job and seal DRY tiles next time.. Thanks! Stonefix - any comments on this product?
