    Default Travertine on plaster skim

Hi all sorry I havent taken part in a while ,computer problems and up untill a month ago really busy but the credit crunch has hit my house now and if not for our local builders wanting a tiler stroke decorater for a refurb it would be dead. Any way priced a job up today 3 bathrooms of 600 x 400 travertine about 80 sqm . The main room is to be changed from bedroom to bathroom and is a lathe(is that how ya spell it)plaster wall with a thin plaster skim on top and then painted.I was trying to explain to customer and builder about my concerns of tiling onto skim even though these walls are solid felt like I was .In the past I have replaced with new boards but the walls have really been a mess.Builder suggested over boarding and screwing into existing studs.Would appreciate your views lads and ladettes.

Over boarding with a suitable board would be ok if you can get good fixings...

A big no no for lath and plaster, the trouble is it can give way at a whim. Over board at least with 12.5mm, that should give you some peace of mind

Check the paint to see how well it is attached, put some sticky tape on the paint and leave for a while then pull off that will indicate how well fixed it is

Agree lath and plaster is a no.no. Remember travertine is porous so tanking in shower is essential.
