Basalt tile, unclean before sealing
Hi guys. had some tiles laid, 40sqm of Basalt 600 by 600
They obviously werent clean before sealing and you can see all the marks and stains on the tiles. It isnt bad but noticeable for sure.
Hey can i clean these up. Aquamix penetrating sealer is what was used. tilers went broke while doing my job and I dont have any more money to pay out.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: Basalt tile, unclean before sealing
Well buddy, from where I sit on this side of the pond,if you've already used penetrating sealer on the tile, all you've done is seal in the dirt spots and stains
(recognize my buddy?)
I don't think you'll ever get the tile back, keep us informed anyways, good luck,
Mike p.s.at least you have good taste in sealer

Re: Basalt tile, unclean before sealing
Depends on what sealer or impregnator that was used.
Most reputable manufacturers have an 'antidote' for removing something that has been applied. For example '' HG spot stain remover'' removes hg impregnator etc etc. Find out what the sealer was and then enquire re the remover in order to clean before re-sealing

Re: Basalt tile, unclean before sealing
Yes you're right warehouseman,I remember a guy about 8yrs ago just pour the sealer on a slate floor,it was aquamix and they did have something to remove it,I can't remember what it was called but I do remember buddy wearing a canister oxygen mask, you start mixing that crap and you could burn a hole through your lung, good luck.

Re: Basalt tile, unclean before sealing
the sealer will probably have to be stripped this is why its important to seal porus tiles before laying

Re: Basalt tile, unclean before sealing
I know the stripper buddy used was quite expensive, depending on the size of the tileset it might be cheaper to just buy new tile. When you consider product, labor etc....
