Qualifications???
Hi Folks,
Although I have been a self employed tiler for a few years now, (quite successfully) I have no formal qualifications related to the industry. Do any of you know what the best way of getting qualified would be without me having to take too much time of work. Looking for city and guilds and CSCS, or any others.
Many thanks.

Re: Qualifications???
the cscs scheme is something you can apply for yourself as it's more to do with health and safety, not to sure about this but you can get assessors from colleges to come out and assess your work with a view to working your way through nvq's,you are prob best contacting someone from NETT!

Re: Qualifications???
Although it's quite easy to get a basic cscs card, there are about 7 different versions and some of them require formal qualifactions or many years on-site experiance.
Is this why you want to go down the formal route? to get site work?

Re: Qualifications???
If the need arises then I will do sitework, although down here the money is crap from what I can gather. I mainly want formal qualifications for more recognition and we want to emigrate eventually.

Re: Qualifications???
You need your nvq 2 to gain a trade cscs card....
You gain get this via osat ( on site assessment ) or ewpa ( experianced worker practicle assessment)...
If you have 5 years checkable work history in tiling then you can do a one day assessment ( ewpa)......or if it's less the you do osat method where you gather evidence via photo's of work and site visits to look at your work...this can be done on sites or domestics....
Chase tiling acadamey will advise best on this.....but i think nett might do the one day assessments...

Re: Qualifications???
yes that's right, I looked into assesment via chase tiling, Margaret was very helpful, and informed me that I may be able to get it funded. Apparently a stumbling block could be I do have a few other qualifications, ie HNC (self funded) "A" and "O" levels that I gained after I left school and also funded myself. Must get the ball rolling again tho' soon!

Re: Qualifications???
You don't necessarily need formal qulifications to emigrate, it may depend on the trade, so worth looking into though. I know one of my Roofing friends didn't need any formal qualifications to work in Australia.
