Any Advice?
Myself and my partner are hoping to emigrate to Oz, as my partner doesnt have a trade he has booked onto a fast track tiling course with the idea of setting up his own business to gain the experience etc. What would be the best route to take, to go over to Oz an try get a job and hopefully get sponsored? Can you give us any advice on what to do now to get the ball rolling?

Re: Any Advice?
Hi Welcome ot the forums, have a look in our dedicated "Australia" forums, there is loads of info there already regarding this. As far as I am aware, just doing a fast track course is not sufficient as a basis for entry and getting a work permit, you need to have a min level of qualification and a number of years verifiable experience.

Re: Any Advice?
not a chance a fast track course will be efficent to go over there they have very strict rules and training. You would defintley need an nvq level 2 minimum and 4 years on site experience

Re: Any Advice?
same as above, the aussies have enough issues with our nvq system as it is, its the verifiable work experiance they want and even then they will expect you to requailify to meet their system before they will give you a full work permit
i looked into this about 10 yrs ago, a lot of my mates sold up and went
i had a heart attack and that was the end of that, ive been given the all clear after surgery but im now to old to resettle any where else
well maybe frinton or somewhere similar
the criteria was
enough money to buy a house and keep yourself whilst you found work
or sponsorship from someone who will keep you whilst you find work
can your partner not use his existing work experiance
I know nothing I havent learnt

He is self employed in advertising, something which isnt on the needed jobs, also he has worked way in Spain for 5 years, so has no work employment history, we are looking to go in 2 years time, we would be willing to pay someone to sponsor us if he obviously meets the skills assesment criteria for tiling, it just seems so difficult..

Re: Any Advice?
im sorry maria
a four week tiling course doesnt qualify as a trade qualification
the reason there is a skills shortage in oz is because they have a high standard for their tradesmen and they have to meet certain criteria before being allowed to work
if you want an aussie to sponsor you try asking on the australian forum, they will also be able to give you the min knowledge and standard required to get the aussie qualification
I know nothing I havent learnt

this is true they dont recognise them
they will allow you in with nvqs but you have to be asssessed for a work permit and you will only get the full permit after you have been through their system
despite working as a kitchen fitter i had to use my decorating quals as they are city & guilds which the aussies feel more comfortable with to get permission to move there
and then i was going to have to be assessed as a carpenter to get my permit to work as a kitchen fitter
i passed the medical and had enough money with the sale of the house to be allowed to settle but while it was all being dealt with i had a heart attack and they refused my application as i wouldnt be able to support myself if i couldnt work
by the time i had an op to sort my heart out i was too old to reapply which im not really sorry about, i think i would miss this country
they also discovered im a diabetic which didnt help my application either though i wasnt refused on it
but no they dont recognise the nvq and you have to requalify
I know nothing I havent learnt
