    Question Making good walls

I have started a bathroom job while taking off the tiles the top skim from the walls come off as well and in some places exposng the brick work. Im looking for the quickest ( and the easiest) way to prep the walls ready to tile on again?
Will I have to strip back the walls back to the brick and re plaster or can I dot and dab with plasterboard, or do you think I should fit ply or hardy backer boards?

Depending on the tile type you could dot n dab plasterboard straight onto the walls. Weight limit is 32kg per m2 including adhesive

    This would be the easiest.
Don't re-plaster as this reduces the weight to 20 kg m2

If the plaster is coming off down to the brick it might be worthwhile / safer to take it all back to brick in case of failure. You have the option of dot and dabbing either PB or HBB but re-enforce the grab with some plugs and screws as well.

EDIT: or just over board and plug and screw to the wall, depending on tolerances.

Hardie needs full coverage with adhesive I believe, not Dot and Dab. Also plug and screw through to the brickwork.

How easy did the plaster come off the walls? is it old lime plaster that is shot to bits? when you hit to with a hammer and bolster does it come off in bits or does it explode into a cloud of dust? if it does then then dot and dabbing the walls may not hold

    Got any pics?
