    Default tidiness

    hiya lads and lasses,not been on for a while but could do with some advice.whenever i do a job i won't throw any offcuts away until the jobs finished,but i tend to keep them close to hand in case they can be used,but as you all know space is always at a premium and it ends up looking like a bombs dropped and i end up keep moving them around.have you lads any advice for keeping it tidy because i'm not the fastest and don't want to waste time keep running up and down stairs all day.cheers boys.

    Offcuts are something you learn to manage with time.

    If I'm starting to fall over myself with offcuts I tend to bin the smaller ones and keep the larger ones, or those that may be the right shapes and sizes for later, to save on cutting.

    If possible I tend to fix whole tiles first then the cut tiles in batches. This saves tripping over a cutter all the time.

    If you've got a good dry cutter, the chances are you will only need a wet cutter for a handful of cuts, so you may not need it upstairs.

    When you go downstairs to get more tools/materials, take the rubbish you've accumulated and any tools/materials you won't need out with you.

    When you set your room out, you should have a fairly good idea what size cuts you will get. So any ones smaller than you will need can be discarded.

    Unless you are doing something like an opus ramano pattern them small off cuts come in handy...

    like CC i tend to tidy up as i go along, usually when taking a break!
    over time you will get an idea of what cuts you will need and what to throw away,and as said before i tend to do cuts in batches also say tile 2 walls then do the cuts for those walls then do the other 2 walls!

    I keep cuts i may be able to use again later in the job as i usually have a fair idea of what i will need at setting out time. Sometimes i even set out to minimise waste if it looks well.
    I take old farm animal meal bags with me to jobs as i have a ready supply and bag up all my rubish as i go (rather my mate does). Sweep and hoover up at the end of every day. I dont like walking into a tip in the morning...neither does the client.

    that leads me on to another quick question,

    what does everyone do with the rubbish at the end of the job? i take mine to local dump,but get charged for disposing every time.in these hard times ,costs matter.so do you pass cost onto customer or what? i dont at moment,but its eating into my profits

    If you follow the law of the land, you are supposed to have an Environment Agency waste carrying licence and then you can use a commercial recycling centre who will charge you.

    At the end of my estimates I always put " all waste will ne left bagged and tidy " then if the client wants you to get rid explain why you have to charge them.

    I give customers the option of having a mini-skip on site for waste material at 50 quid a go, or of course they can ditch that idea and make a couple of trips to the tip themselves.

    Invariably option 2 is chosen

    I find used adhesive bags are a sturdy option for keeping waste/junk on one side as you go.

    i do the same doozy

    never had to hire a skip yet
