Re: rougue tiler
I landed a nice contract to tile a 5 star hotel at port sunlight on the wirral. Took g.h tiling with me, all marble and granite. We stayed for the entire week as arranged and I was then going on hols an the sat morning. One week later on my return I find I've lost the job which I due to run for 6 months. That was last august, today I find out g.h tiling carried on that contract which was all word of mouth until 3 weeks ago when he was kicked of site. Also as an add on there was a 500m2 dance floor in 1500x 750mm 30mm granite in saddleworth which is 15mins from me. All gone. The second I turned my back this muppett under cut my price and pulled the rug from my feet. Leather face who is a member has also had dealings with this muppett . I'm making sure he never works in huddersfield again. Please support my cause by making sure people like this don't get away with dirty tricks ever again. Cheers all

Re: rougue tiler
How do you take on a £20,000 contract on 'word of mouth'.
Building contractors/leisure groups etc usually require a fixed price contracts so unless the work was not to an acceptable standard you would have recourse through the courts.

Re: rougue tiler
I find it shocking that a subby might side swipe the main man, but it happens.
If you took another tiler to a job without a contract with the customer then you were asking for trouble. Its like taking two wolves to a dead deer and expecting 1 not to get greedy.
A 20k job on a verbal contract
Hindsight is a valuable thing, now you have some. . . 8/10 blokes would have done the same thing.
Morale of the story is; seal the contract then sub it out, or do it yourself, which I can't understand why you didn't tbh

he's a bad man for doing that in my book!

Re: rougue tiler
Its a bitch, but you should have covered your own ar55e with a contract of sorts.
Saying that........he would'nt tile again if it was done to me.

Re: rougue tiler
if 8/10 men would have done the same then im glad to say that im in the 2/10 bracket
lets hope that this guy gets done the same.....live by the sword die by the sword

Re: rougue tiler
You took a "contract" on of that size ? Was there any written contract? If not then you are the muppet (sorry but it had to be said). If there was no contract between you and the building firm then i would say the building firm would be well dodgy, did you not submit risk assesments and method statements?
Something doesnt sound right here.
You took extra labour ? How well did you know G H Tiling before this ? Another mistake maybe ?
Why has it taken so long to find all this out ?
You say he has been kicked off the job ? So its all a happy ending then?
Oh and to say you have been stung for £20,000 is incorrect. You didnt do the work so therefore you werent owed it.
Sorry if my words are not what you wanted to hear but they are my thoughts on this.
Saying that i do agree that we should be able to trust those that we try and help and i would be wary of this character but then as always there are always 2 sides to an argument.

Re: rougue tiler
A few years ago, we got a builder in to build my garage. No written contract. Put him off job after 7 weeks, because it was only half done. i contacted, consumer direct, to find out where i stand, with no written contract, and was told,a verbal contract is just as binding as a written contract, may be different down south though.

what goes around comes around!
However i agree totally with Sir Ramic, taking a job on of that magnatude surely merits some binding contract.

'bad man' 'muppet' thats not quite what i would call that son of a b****, i don't know how i'd cope with that i'd probably go looking to cut his nuts off, you're a brave man to put up with something like that, good luck for the future. Mike

Re: rougue tiler
the job in question didnt start of as a full hotel and yes it was in port sunlight village, it was the former hospital. it started as 5x7m2 bathrooms in harlequin granite, so anyone would just go and do the work without a written contract, end of day 2 the owner requested that we did the entire hotel, i disscussed terms and legals. on my return from holiday contracts were to be drawn up and my company was to start the rest of the work. in reality when i came back from holiday i was not able to conact the hotelier and several emails and phone calls later realised that i had been blown out.
36 hrs ago im informed that gh tiling has continued this work since august until 3 weeks ago. so sir ramic, before casting judgement request all facts.
i dont play at this game, ive got just short of 18years in the trade, i spend around 20-30k per year on adhesives alone per year and yes ive written more method statements/risk assesments than i care to remember. i am a tiler and tiling contractor and am more than used to the contracts proceedure and just for the record sir ramic you really know how to get someone's back up!!!!!!!
