    Default Tiling over mosaics?

    Hi all,

I'm going to be looking at a bathroom wall job. I'm told by the customer that the walls currently have glass mosaic on them which he wants tiled over. I'm reluctant to do this in view of the weight issues and relying on the strength of the existing adhesive. Has anyone any experience of tiling over mosaics? I don't yet know what size and type tiles the customer intends to have but would appreciate any advice...

    Thanks

hi tiling over mossys is not something i would recommend due mainly as you say to the weight and adhesion of the excisting tiles they may sound fully bonded but you will never really no until its too late. and as usual it will be YOUR fault not theirs. best to advise customer of this and suggest removing if they wont then all you can do is explain the problems which can arise. also put it in writing for them and keep a copy....or walk away its your reputation.

    Thanks all for your replies,

I told the customer that the mosaics would have to come off before tiling and explained why. He's pleased with this advice, and I've got the job!

    Thanks again
