Read a post about a tiler offering to remove a customers tiles as way of securing the job !!
Trade waste has already been mentioned as part of another thread, but I thought it deserved it's own.
Please follow link and read ( from Brighton and Hove Council ) but rules still apply nationwide !
The customer has to be careful as well, because if their waste is found dumped they can be prosecuted as well...
The law now states that if you have any of your rubbish removed and it ends up being
flytipped, you could be held responsible and fined. When dealing with waste removal services
or tradesmen where rubbish will be generated e.g. builders, plumber, gardening contractors,
always ask for a valid waste carriers licence. Householders should follow these 4 simple steps
to help protect yourself and the environment.
1. Ask for their waste carrier registration number
2.Check the number with the Environment Agency (http://www2.environmentagency.
gov.uk/epr/search.asp) or by calling 08708 506506.
3. Keep a note of all the information you receive from the waste collector/tradesman.
4. If they're not registered don't use them.
Its just another stealth tax, they dont care about small business, just get the money in so they can waste it, the ads say tax doesnt have to be taxing, but it is, big time
Rant over
Wonder if the Government will one day set up the Tiling Police ?
Licensed to enter any property and inspect a tilers work. Unlimited fine and or prison/ Or shoot on sight : for bad workmanship.
Perhaps this is what the industry needs !
Maybe by the year 2020 it may become reality : Tile Cop
What is the general situation with trash disposal there in the UK? In certain areas of the US, it is extremely expensive for the dump fees (usually measured price per ton, sometimes price per item) and with regulatory stuff about sorting and so on.
So far in my county, it isn't too bad. If I go to the county dump it is about $65 a ton. My county is still largely rural so things haven't gotten too tight yet.
In the jursidictions I work in that are closer to DC, it has become a real bitch to get rid of construction trash. SOme of the county dumps won't take it now...it either has to go to a private facility or get brought in via a trash hauler, which means dumpsters and sometimes a lot more money than you otherwise would have to spend.
I take all the packaging back to the supplier and put it in their skips. I tell them I bought the product not the packaging. Depending on quantity of waste I will either ask the customer to dispose off or get a small skip in. DIY sheds also do Hippo Bags.
I believe that we should all start taking food packaging back to supermarkets, it might make them think about the quantity that their suppliers produce.
Program on TV the other night, in Germany all supermarkets have re cycling bins after the checkouts so that the customer can bin the packaging before they get it all home.
What happened to the old ways of everything in paper bags and grease proof paper!!
I have posted on this before as they are getting very active in chasing illegal waste disposal in my area. Not only the operators but one woman recently got fined £400 for using an illegal disposer, they found her address in the rubbish. Problem is a lot of the public don't seem to know about the rules and can't understand why you won't just take stuff away in your van.
might just be me but i allways tell customers its their waste not mine might sound selfish but its their kitchen or bathroom
why should i go to the local dump in my van and dispose of their rubbish at cost to me when they can go in their car and pay nothing
i do advise my customers of this and most agree
guys, did you know you can also be fined for carrying trade waste!!! unless you have purchased a trade waste licence from your local authority at a cost of around 150 you are liable> happy tiling

if i was stopped i would argue that what i was carrying was not waste as pretty much it all can be reused cardboard may be described as floor protection ,broken tiles can be desribed as mosaic smalti , set adhesive is hard core and if you are not actually at the tip gates then you are not getting rid of it as commercial waste only transporting your materials to a different location which you are legally entitled to do
official line is that if for example you take waste from a job and store at home ( For whatever purpose ) You are actually operating an illegal waste transfer station.
You have to prove that the waste you are carrying is not actually waste, broken tile is to be used as a mural in mosaic, card is for school projects, unused adhesive is hard core which is sold on. happy tiling
