What tiles are 'IN' at the moment

Hi guys, quite often when I go to spec a bathroom the customer often hasn't a clue about what tiles they want and always ask me what tiles are in atm.
Obviously with better adhesives out there nowadays LFT and stone are big but what do you advise? It's just that after my input they all seem to go for 60x30 beige porcs in brick bond and I'm getting quite fed up with 'em tbh

They always ask how much they should cost too!
That's like asking me how much should they should spend on a house or car.

Well..i have seen the shops starting to stock ..patterned effect tiles...like laura ashely type florals etc...quite aztecy designs.....and also 5 inch tiles for kitchens coming back in......And more and more stone tiles...

The problem with tiles that are in at the moment is that they will look terrible in 10 years.20 years ago it was all ceramic,a lot of swedish white 8x8 then came marble,granite and slate followed by glass and handmade.At the moment I would say it was funky glass and metal,anything that some designer thinks is in.It will all look outdated in the future,even the classics even if they do have a better chance.
The only advice I could give is that the client should pick their favourite tile that fits with their house.

There seems to be a lot more contemporary tiles "in" at the moment and have noticed sizes are getting larger as well. A lot more porcelain around. Too many styles and colours to mention. The sky's the limit with prices as well £30 to well over £100 a metre

Try £200 to £300 for fancy mosaics

Tile shops will only stock tiles That are 'IN FASHION' because that what sells, so no matter what the customer picks they are the styles of the minute.

we are doing lots of jobs with 60 x 40 trav at the moment, seems to be very popular, i would say so far backend of last year and this year the most popular floor tile we are fixing is the 40 x 40 or 30 x 30 black quartz galaxy tiles that you can get with either silver or gold flecks in them, they look awsome in kitchens if the customer has spotlights built in the kickboards, very bling,,,,

i think brickbond is starting to go out of fashion. its all i used to do but lately everything is laid landscape which looks better in my opinion

Agree with Wayne...landscape better than brickbond. Lot of trav work recently and a couple of cappuccino marble from Topps. ..(have you seen their disgusting rose print ones???)

done a lot of brickbond lately but with 2 colours and a stagger effect through it!
don't like it much though as it really has to be a good looking tile!
done a fair bit of travertine lately thats what seems to be in,think cause it's coming down in price!also tiles with swirls and circles seem to be in the now!

Maybe we should push the glass, metallic and floral. As has been said before, they may be in now, but will soon look dated so more work for us!

natural stone, in my mind is always one that will stand the test of time and not get outdated

Still doin brickbond in cheshire,mainly cream porc or stone,all kitchens done this year have been mosaic(my eyes are starting to see small squares)It seems to be whatever the tile shops are pushing and it gets boring doin same.The plus side is you know the price before you go on most occasions so it helps you that way.B+Q have just announced massive sale on clearance polished porc,i can see problems ahead!!!!!

Over the past year we have fixed hundreds of metres of Travertine to bathrooms etc.
The great thing about this fashion trend is its not really for the DIY market - wet saws, polished edges and big tiles. I just hope however that sales of this natural product doesn't get ruined like Terracotta and Slate did by people not understanding the full preparation process.
Although you can pick up some extremely good stone now at competitive ceramic prices it has meant that this once exclusive product has now become available to the larger masses going for that 'look' - and consequently you have to be more competitive on your fixing price.
So show enthusiasm and enjoy this fantastic product (where every tile is unique) by cutting a mix of tiles into smaller pieces to use as feature panels or introduce some of the mosaic/glass borders vertically.
Like all natural products its Timeless!

Even joe public is getting our prices.
Some tilers/shops pass their full discount onto the customer.

Surely 'fashion' is good for trade.... It goes out of fashion, the client wants it updated with the latest 'in' tile......... Can't be bad.

Agreed, that is what the German tile market shows too this season. Most common is 60x30 or 80x40 beige or creamy white at walls and 40x40 and up dark/coffee brown or slate imitating floor tiles. And also these wood imitating tiles that are often bows if quality is bad.

Walls have often colour matching glasss mosaic but no longer complete around the bathroom. Its more shown in spots or as a stripe running from floor to ceiling or like a frame around the shower.

2 years ago we had the "mediteranean" season: cotto imitating floor tiles with light blue and light green tiles.

As per the a.m. posts we also cannot see a season for natural stones, they are always wanted but less than tiles.

Hi, Last year and now I`m fitting mainly 60x30, 80x40, 1250x60, 60x60. I`m not looking forward to the1250x1250, the 1250x60 are 25Kg!!!Got arms like an Orangutang.
