revamping leaky shower
I am pretty new to tiling and am doing my first real shower, which is basically taking out 2 layers of tiles - which is taking forever (am using club hammer and various cold chisels- and then I need to make sure its waterproof and retile. I have found underneath the tiles on one wall there this some untreated plaster board butted up to a stud (?) thick piece of wood running vertically and the otherside of the stud there is mortar. On the other wall where the shower fitting is there is lots of loose mortar. I was thinking on this wall to fill the holes and sanddown, tank and tile as there is no room really to put up some sort of backerboard as this would then mean tiles weren't flush with the rest of the room ( which is fully tiled). Would be acceptable? and if not, how should I tackle it.
Thanks very much

Re: revamping leaky shower
hi Whitebeam, there are some picture on my other thread about this job http://www.tilersforums.co.uk/tiling-forum/19418-leaky-shower-help-new-post.html
there's only one bit of plasterboard which I am going to remove with the tiles n' all. the thing that worries me is the actual shower dial and the loose materilal where its been bedded in the wall. thanks

Re: revamping leaky shower
would you not be quicker removing the existing plasterboard with the tile on it than removing 2 layers of tiles and trying to touch up plasterboard, that way you could replace with aqua-panel or a similar product if your planning to tank the room!

Re: revamping leaky shower
as it turns out I think some of the tiles may be on asbestos board, and the rest are on the wall.
