cut out the contour on a shape tracer, piece of paper or card, make sure it,s exact, then mark it on to the tile, you can cut it out in slithers then use your nippers to trim it of before filing back!

    hope this helps

Same as david, when you cut your template make sure it is the same size as the tile. I use an angle grinder to remove all the waste and a diamond tile file to smooth the sharp edges.

Also another point be careful if using a pencil to mark porcelain as it can mark the tile and can be difficult to remove.

What is the pillar made of? wood, plaster? I'd be tempted to chisel a bit off the bottom (10mm deep) off the piller and slide the tile underneath, your cut can be a bit rougher then and would be quicker (well for me anyway) of course if it's a marble pillar it would be easier and quicker to shape the tile.

to cut the pillar flip the tile upside down and rest a saw flat on top then run the saw round the base. The thickness of the blade and maybe resting the tile on some spacers should allow enough room for the adhesive as well

    Just another suggestion

Brilliant, the little sucker grips well. When scored do some drop cuts and snap off with ceramic and porcelain, great little tool. Someone asked me how I made such a neat circle and they were well impressed with the opening for a toilet waste pipe.

Be careful with tools for porcelain tiles. Only diamond is able to dent such a hard material which is 30% harder than granite.

If you are trying to cut porcelain tiles you will have to grind the material away.
