    Default Cutting problem

I've been using a Sigma cutter over the past 25 years with no issues. But I've recently invested in a Rubi TX900n for the larger format tiles. The problem I'm having with it is I'm not always getting clean break on large format porcelain tiles (say about 600mm). For some reason about 10mm breaks off the corner and it's enough the render the cut useless. I've tried everything I can think of - oiled the wheel, keeping an even pressure and making sure the tile is scored right across. I've cut thousands of tiles in my time and not really had this problem before. Has anyone else experienced this and more importantly overcome it?

Always off the corner ? Where are you applying pressure with your breaker ? What scoring wheel are you using ? How hard are you scoring ? Even pressure quickly or hard handed ?
    All makes a difference ?

SOLUTION...CUT THE TWO ENDS 10MM EACH SIDE IN THE WET CUTTER AND THEN DRY CUT THE REST.

It works,i had this problem with 600x600 polished porcelain and done this and it worked.

same problem with my last porcelain, took a tip from an 'old-timer' - a little bit of masking tape over the corner. 9 out of 10 times it worked. bobs your uncle.

Would this still be quicker than cutting the entire tile in the wet cutter?

You could try, after scoring the tile, pulling it back from the flat edge of the cutter by 5mm. Then use the breaker.

Thanks guys, I had already considered Doug Boardley's solution. Will give it a go. Had also considered the wet cutting idea but really time consuming! It does seem to occur at either end. One thing I've noticed is that you can tell every time when it will happen. It's whenever (about 50% of the time) you need a lot of pressure to break the tile. Some tiles (of the same batch) break easier and these are fine. I think the larger wheel is a good starting point.
