    Was chatting to a supervisor at work the other he's also a tiler,was talking about slc and he told me he never uses it just uses a 20mm trowel instead anyone else use one of these.Personally i like a flat smooth surface to work on.

    Hi,

    20 mm trowel sounds like about 3/4" trowel for us (the largest one I own), and we use them for really large tile and stone, or for smaller stuff that is irregular or rough on the back....even if going over a mud bed or SLC.

    I agree with you...I prefer to get the substrate looking good first, then not to have to fight with it as much when setting the tile.

    Whats under the tiles matters just as much. Full coverage on floor tiles is very important, i was taught to have all trowel lines goin the same way or it would cause air gaps under the tiles therefor causing cracking if pressure is applied.

    might as well charge to level the floor...extra days wages and make life easier for yourself.
