Tiling a shower cubicle for a friends mum
Im about to do a 4ms cubical shower on sunday for a freinds mum and because i dont tile now, (only for odd jobs) i only quoted £50 thinking it would only take half a day to tile and a few hours to finish up the next day
The tiles that are on must be at least 15 yaers old so am unsure of the condition behind the tiles, now i cant help but think its gonna be a bigger job if the wallas are uneven behind and other factors that may slow.
I just wanted to ask, what would you charge for a 4sm cubical (labour only) for a normal customer and for a freind.
I just didnt have the heart to say a bigger price and when i said the price she went ohhhh thats very good

Just be honest with yourself and your friends Mum. If you think the substrate is in poor condition and needs to be replaced then that's exactly what you tell her. After all you are a mere mortal and you can't conjure miracles.
This kind of honesty will put your tiling career onto the right foot. Never be scared of telling the truth. If it has been there for 15 plus tears then it's time for a complete re-fit.

Re: Tiling a shower cubicle for a friends mum
As for charging. Assuming the substrait is good enough to tile onto with perhaps a bit of work I would usually quote a day and I usually get the work, but then I'm not as fast as some of you. It all depends how many cuts, size and type of tiles etc.
This would include the aggrevation factor, which is about minor improvements to the substrate etc. Any major prep work, replastering or dry lining etc would be extra.

Re: Tiling a shower cubicle for a friends mum
For a close mate id do it for the cost of the materials and a couple of pints.
For an aquaintance would be 1 x dayrate + mats
For a mate that wasnt a close enough mate to do it for nowt id charge dayrate but for such a small area i'd chuck in the materials for nothing, afterall its only going to be 1 bag of addy, a small bag of grout and a tube of silicone if it all goes to plan so your looking £20 max.
Give the PVA a miss though mate use a proper primer, it would be a nightmare if it went wrong after youd done it for £50.
