Default What worktops and skirtings work with travertine??

I am about to lay a large area of 45 x 45 honed and filled travertine to a kitchen, hall, family room and utility inmy house. The jitchen will have white gloss units - any suggestions of what worktops would match/contrast best with the travertine floor. Also do oak skirtings/architraves/doors work with travertine?? Photos of suggestions/examples MUCH appreciated.

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid wood for kitchen worktops as want something very hard wearing and contemporary - such as a composite stone. I don't seem to be able to find anything that is a really good match for it and as the plans incude an island with "drop down" sides that will touch the floor, I think the worktop either really needs to be a pretty perfect match or a good contrast. Any suggestions very gratefully received!

Did a splashback on top of wood worktops a short while ago. They had had 5 coats of sealer on them but still looked as if they hadn't been touched. luckily I had them well covered up because they stained VERY easily!

Oak is a very obvious choice, it's timeless (well almost...the 'stain it ALL dark' and varnish it look of my parents generation is on par with an avocado bathroom suit!.. but much older!) and natural oak exudes class. I've been working with timber all my life (started in Dads workshop age 3) Now early fifties (But obviously don't look anywhere my real age!!)

Although as a traditionalist with old fashioned values, I frown upon some of the technical advances iused in making construction products especially with timber/materials etc. I was (am) inpressed at the way an oak veneer has been applied to various MDF mouldings like skirting and architrave.

If fitted properly (and never in a damp/wet environment) it would look like the real thing, but with more uniformity and dimensional stability. I saw it in Selco the builders supplier.

I would definitely consider using it as it is a fraction of real solid oak.

    oak looks supurb with travertine

i think it would be too much if the tops matched the travertine and wouldnt look so good if they were only a close match

go for a contrast to the travertine or pick a colour close to the oak but in composite stone which will tone everthing in

magnets are doing tops at unbelievable prices at the moment, their worktop range is on their site www magnet trade

total cost of granite was under £600 we saved a lot of money by buying a budget kitchen with the granite worktops on it makes it look far more expensive than it really is, we had so much granite left over we had enough for the utility room

i have worked on some exclusive jobs in the past and they had trav on the floors and walls with black granite work top i was a bit dubious at first but the job was stunning when complete and they only used white skirts.

i'm with the last few posts on this, using black granite gives you contrasting colours and makes both the floors and worktops stand out in equal measures
