Whenever I see bathroom tiles laid out that are oblong like A4, I always see them with the tallest side vertical. I don't see them laid the other way round, like bricks.
My first instinct for my bathroom was with the long side horizontal. Why do tilers do it the other way round. Is it at customers request or for a tiling reason? Number of cuts for example.
Most customers ask for them to be set that way. I have done both.
Setting them in brick bond vertically takes a little more time, as it is not possible to use one continuous batten when fixing your first course.
I started a bathroom yesterday and the tiles are 330x250,customer wanted them horizontally laid and brick bonded,it's down to them always unless they say do it real nice whatever way you think then your free to do whatever nearly, lol.
You can always suggest doing them the other way, or a combination of both.
Job I recently completed was in 600 x 300 tiles, tile to half way up except for shower area, which was to ceiling height. I persuaded to customer to have them traditional brick bond for the half tile bit, then vertical brick in the shower, very effective, customer pleased as it made the shower area look a bit more special.

Looks great like that, last week i had one with black 500x250 on basin wall horizontal, then white 500x250 everywhere else horizontally accept for shower area which had the black again running vertical with 2 insets into wall too done red !!! floor was black skytech at £120 mtr !!
i do it off a battern by cutting a few tiles in half then using them to get stuff in the right place

i prefer to set tiles out long ways not always brick bond though,in smaller rooms as it quite often makes the room appear longer and usually suggest this to customers,it would surprise you the amount of people who for some reason don't think this can be done!
