    Default Tile Accacclimatization

    Hi Guys

Just wondered if it mattered whether tiles should be left in the room to be tiled to acclimatize 48 hours? I know wood flooring or laminate does. Is this a good practice. Views appreiated - thanks.

I wouldn't think it'd matter Howard, after all when you stick them on the wall you're introducing moisture onto the biscuit in the form of wet adhesive

No I can't see it being an important factor either. Usually lay them straight from a cold garage or garden shed

Could we class tiles as a floating bed as with laminate? Is this what ditra does if you know what I mean...

    Thanks

    Hi

No m8 if you use an uncoupling membrane then the membrane is fixed to the floor and tiles fixed to membrane. This creates direct bonding so its not regarded as floating.

If you used a dry lay uncoupling membrane such as Lux then I suppose it could be construed as floating but due to the minimalist thickness and the weight of the tiles imo this would be solid.

A floating floor usually refers to a floor without fixing, eg a concrete sub base with a layer of jabolite over boarded with weyroc glued not screwed would be floating.

    Hope this helps

    ..

If have natural stone and the tiles have been left outside in the rain (it do's happen) wait for them to dry before sealing

This time of year I sometimes ask (joking) if the customer can bring the tiles in to acclimatize. Nothing worse than on a cold morning having to handle tiles straight from the Artic

Especially if they are in the garage at the bottom of the garden.
