lifting porc tiles
Hello lads. I.ve got a bit of a dilema. i've got to lift two porc floor tiles, in the middle of a floor. They have been down for five days, with s,p,f. I need to know the best way to get them up, without damaging other tiles. hope someone has done this before.
Cheers in advance, Edd

Hi edd.....
remove surrounding grout, then a tap with a hammer in the tile centre should pop them up...go canny

Re: lifting porc tiles
cheers Dave. these tiles are 600/300 with the worst bow in them i have seen. If i push my steel rule down on one end it is lifted about 3 or 4mm on the other end.
Cheers Edd

Re: lifting porc tiles
I've got a reasonable sized hole drill that flys through porc, godsend recently as had to do the same. Raked out grout, then chipped out from the middle. All came out nice

Re: lifting porc tiles
bosch drills are excellent for drilling holes and are only a few quid for the bits,do as Dave says and or include a few drilled holes in the tilesat each end of the tiles.Be careful when chiseling the adhesive off the floor incase you damage surrounding tiles.

Re: lifting porc tiles
If you need any diamond drills for this job let me know. The biggest we go up to is 65mm with a guide plate and 125mm without.

65mm drill is the largest with non-slip plate

Re: lifting porc tiles
Brian, if you're thinking about the Standard Bosch multi purpose drills they will struggle with porcelain. I try to use the smaller ones to save the 365 bits if I can as they are cheaper. But the 365 bits get through porcelain no problem.
But at £6.50 a set from B&Q they are worth a shot.
I would definitely buy a set of the 365 bits, and Richard may have some sets at a discount.

Re: lifting porc tiles
You are making tile removal expensive.........just crack it up with a hammer after removing surrounding grout...

Re: lifting porc tiles
I agree with Dave, it really isn't that difficult especially as they have only been down a few days. The most important bit is getting the grout out and then bash away, gently at first then getting firmer until it shatters and then the rest is easy. I don't think you will be able to prise out a whole tile - it will be in lots of little bits. GET YOUR GOGGLES ON - I got a bit in my eye before Christmas and ended up in A&E to get it out.

Re: lifting porc tiles
Cheers lads, im going to take them out tomorrow morning. I think i'll go with the hammer method, with a bolster, to knock the adhesive out.
Cheers Edd

Re: lifting porc tiles
The tiles came up ok. Just hit them with a hammer, to break them. then they lifted out easy. cheers again Dave.
