tile on tile adhesive
Hi,
Im gonna tile on tile in a bathroom in a couple of weeks time for a customer, the tiles seem ok,and have done this before, but just wondering what type of adhesive would be best suited for this.
Im going to scuff the tiles then prime them first.
Ive used tubbed gear before ,but was thinking of using some cement based addy.
What do you think guys.
Cheers.
Vin.

Re: tile on tile adhesive
Ok...as most know i am not a lover of over tiling...
....
I will say what to use in a min...just curious what tubbed gear you used before for over tiling...and what finish of tile did you tile over..?..
Right back to the question in hand.......tiling over glazed tiles require a highly flexible S1 type adhesive after the tiles have been fully degreased...no need to scuff them up really if correct adhesive is used...

im not sure pics ever do handmade tiles any justice,i personally think they look awful, this is a very old cottage so may look ok,these are 5"x 5" and vary from 5mm to about 12mm thick and the tile size varies by upto 10mm in 4 colours,so im not certain photos will be great.

Re: tile on tile adhesive
there just really frustrating for a tiler as you want a flat, even, plumb or square finish.
i done around 7mts about 15 years back for travellers in a house, got a call 6 weeks later would i come and retile as they didnt like the unevenness,i finished up tiling virtually every traveller job in essex after that, strangest recomendations ive ever had.

the thing with them is you let them take the mick once they walk all over you, having said that 90% of my travellers were real gypsies, you know when you price your gonna take a hit so you play the same game, and after they pay you you give them a tenner back dont ask me why but its some sort of tradition.
i turned up one Saturday to do a bog standard job and they had changed there tiles and wanted diamonds,i said its double he said 2 words the last ending with F,3 weeks later i get a call of another trav i had worked for before,i told him i wont tiling anymore for travs blah blah blah within the day i was paid for the lost day and paid upfront the the forthcoming job.
never had a problem after that, most of them are decent people its just the pikeys that nouse it up for the decent ones.
