Confused myself
Stupid question i know but could ease my mind please people?
I have 12m2 to lay and i know that you should centre the room to get your middle. However, im assuming thats just a square room with no furniture involved? What and how would you set and find you middle if you have two areas at either end are bare but in the middle of the room and either side is the kitchen units and worktops? Would you measure the legs on the kitchen units and find your middle that way?

Re: Confused myself
is this a kitchen with an island? if so i would pretty much go about centring the room so it looks equal either side of the island!

Re: Confused myself
Centering the room is just a general guidline. What you are really looking for is the best overall look.Ideally you want to have large cuts everywhere ie more than half a tile. You should get a tape measure out and look at a few options to see which one will work best for the layout of your room with the tiles you have selected. You can start by finding the centre of the room from both directions and seeing what kind of cuts you will get against all walls and counters. You can then look at it centered on the centre of a tile instead of a joint. Then you could try centering on the cabinets or the island all the time searching for the option that will give you the best look.Sometimes it's nice to start with a full tile at the door but look at all the possible options before you start.Take your time.As you look at more options you will get a clearer view of your floor and find the layout that is best for your room. Then get some lines on the floor and check every thing again before you start. When it feels right it probably is but check again.

Re: Confused myself
No island.either side of the space is the kitchen worktops say a metre long then it opens up to a large space either end as the kitchen worktop finishes. That's why i said come off the legs and work out cuts from there.I think that make sense.

Re: Confused myself
Could do.I'm confused now after reading what I wrote. It sounds as if the large spaces either side of the cabinets are a bigger feature floor wise.I would centre on that and then see what cuts that gives you at the cabinets.

Re: Confused myself
I would put a level on the face of the kitchen units below the worktop and mark the floor rather than marking off the legs, sometimes they are in and out like a yo yo

Re: Confused myself
even as a FITTER id say dont go from the legs, unless you know the units are definatly square to the room!

Re: Confused myself
Depends if the legs are all in line.......Open a cupboard door and use a small level and place on the carcass front then mark the floor with a pencil etc...do this further along the units and join these together....then strike a 3,4,5 from this line.......this will then give a sqaure line to the kitchen and then you can use this as your floor datum line to set out with.......
